What You don't Need is Exactly What I need
"What You don't Need is Exactly What I need" started in 2021 with Phebea's exhibition "On The Other Hand" at the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei. Phebea aimed to challenge conventional thinking by inviting the use of everyday human experiences in their work, creating a low barrier for entry. Visitors were encouraged to experience a shift in perspective and reflect on the question, "Can we think differently about what we overlook?"

Meet What You don't Need is Exactly What I need
In 2021, as a curator, Phebea also hoped to loosen conventional practices through deeper practice—curators asking questions, artists answering with their works. Thus began the "What You don't Need is Exactly What I need" project, in which she also participated as an artist in the exhibition. There is a need called "Your needlessness is my need," which, on the other hand, means "My needlessness may be your need." What I take for granted might be a different narrative for you.
Over the years, Phebea has collected idle yarn from people's homes, from websites, and created art pieces using double half-hitch knot techniques to explore the "needs" and "unnecessaries" in life.
